British Chess Championships, Torquay 2019: Junior Bursaries

The annual British Chess Championships are returning to Devon for the first time since 2013  and will be staged at the English Riviera Centre in Torquay between 26th July and 4th August. There is a full range of Junior Championships which will be staged at different points during the Congress. The detailed schedule is as follows:

Under 16 (born 2003 or later)/Under 14 (born 2005 or later)/Under 12 (born 2007 or later)/Under 10 (born 2009 or later): Sunday 28th July – Saturday 3rd August (1 round per day.

Under 11 (born 2008 or later)/Under 9 (born 2010 or later); Friday 26th and Saturday 27th July (3 rounds each day)

Under 8 (born 2011 or later):  Sunday 28th July (6 rounds in one day)

In order to encourage strong local juniors to take advantage of this opportunity the DCCA is offering 10 junior bursaries   to offset the cost of entry fees to the championships.

The entry fees are as follows: Under 10/11/12/14/16  Championships: £50  if entry before 1.6.19 (after 1.6.19 £70 ).

Under 9: £35 /(£50) . Under 8 : £25 /(£40)

The value of the bursaries will be £25  (£20 Under 8 and Under 9).

Interested juniors should send a short letter to the DCCA General Secretary outlining their chess career and achievements to date.  Applications should reach the General Secretary by 10th May and a panel will consider the applications with a view to letting successful applicants know by mid-June. Applications should make clear their age and the tournament in which they intend to play.  They should also state to whom a cheque should be made payable if the application is successful.
