    Devon Junior Chess Championships 2026 and Schools Team Tournament 2026

    • PLAY will start at 9.30am.
      Please arrive in good time.
      The day will finish at about 5.00pm after the prize giving.
      This will be as soon as possible after the last round finishes.
      Prizegiving for U9s should be earlier.
    • TIME CONTROL is 20 minutes per player per game with 5s increment per move (younger players may play with a faster time control)
    • Everyone plays in all 6 rounds (except for byes).
    • EPSCA Rapidplay rules will apply: https://www.epsca.org.uk/rules-2
    • DEVON CHAMPIONSHIPS prizes for Devon players only — out-of-county players will still get a suitable trophy for a top score!
    • DEVON SCHOOLS’ U11 & U9 TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS: Team lists of 5 players from the same school to be handed in by the start of round 2. The scores of the 5 players will be totalled at the end to find the school champions in the U11 and U9 sections.
    • DEVON SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ CHAMPIONSHIP: Team lists of 5 players from the same school from more than one section to be handed in by the start of round 2. The scores of the 5 players will be totalled at the end to find the secondary school champions.

    Supervision
    Please note that the organisers are only responsible for children inside the chess playing areas.
    Players must have someone to supervise them in the rest area.
    Please bring something to do between rounds.

    • PRIZES: Trophies will be awarded to the first three places in each section.  Other prizes may be awarded according to the size of the entry.
    • FACILITIES: We are hoping to arrange a refreshment stall offering hot and cold drinks and snacks.
    • There will be a CHESS SHOP selling books, sets and other items.

      EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT £15 before Sat 21st Nov 2026
      LATE ENTRIES will be accepted only in exceptional circumstances, when they will be subject to a £5 surcharge.
