UK Chess Challenge 2022

The event dates and qualification rules for the UK Chess Challenge 2022
have been announced.

The UK Chess Challenge is the largest chess competition in the world,
with (pre-COVID) more than 100,000 children taking part in schools and
elsewhere each year. There are different stages to the competition:
school, Megafinal, Gigafinal and Terafinal.

TBGS through to National Finals

With a 4-2 victory over Taunton School, Torquay Boys' Grammar School have won though to the finals of the National Schools' Chess competition.

Our congratulations to them and our best wishes for the national stage of the event!

ECF Junior Team Chess Challenge 2022 -- SW Final

Great to see this event happening -- very encouraging to see this activity among secondary schools again.

Congratulations to Exeter School for taking 1st place in the U18 section and to TBGS for their 1st place in the U13.

In the Clubs/Organisations competition as part of the UK Chess Challenge, Exeter Junior Chess Club came out as South-West region winners. Well done to them!

More #chess success for Devon juniors

Congratulations to Caleb Caleshu who has won through to the U14 Terafinal of the UK Chess Challenge. Best of luck in the final from all at Devon Junior Chess!

National Success for Devon #chess junior

Pengxiao Zhu took part in the British Online Chess Championships in August, winning the U10 Blitz trophy and a Performance Prize for the U10 Rapidplay competition.

Many congratulations to Pengxiao from everyone at Devon Junior Chess!

Opening booklets pretty well complete

I've added to the collection of opening guides a PDF booklet and a PGN file for the Old Indian and Philidor's Defence (one booklet), same again for the Benko Gambit and Cambridge Springs Defence, and PGN+PDF for each the three Black hypermodern defences: Alekhin's, Grunfeld's and the Pirc/Modern complex.
